With which format i can get maximum compression .7z or zip or rar?also tell me the best one for small size?

i heard that .7z is the best .i have a meagre 160 gb haddisk and it is already overflowing.so i want to archive all the files so that i can save disk space?.please tell me in detail about some best compression technique or compression software?
