I.d cards for nationals..people who live in the country i.e british people in england?

should the nationals of england be made to have i.d cards without the option to opt out or is this an infringement of our rights ... what is your opinion on i.d cards as a whole and would you rather have time in prison then be forced to give over personal details and biometric information i.e iris scans fingerprints. any answer will be greatly appreciated for my research unit for end of year at college.
