Where is the best place on the Las Vegas Strip to see the fireworks on New Years Eve?

I visit Las Vegas 1-2 times/year but this is the first time I'm going to be there on New Years Eve. Does anyone have any suggestions where is a good spot to be on the strip for the party/fireworks? How early should we get there to reserve a spot? (I know the streets are closed hours beforehand). Some of the people in our group are a little claustrophobic so we don't want to be in the thick of it all, but rather somewhere on the outskirts where people are still gathered, but it's not like a sardine can. thanks in advance!
