Why is Akira opening in cinemas now? It's been around since 1988!?

I just went on RottenTomatoes.com and saw that Akira is one of the films that's opening this week. To be honest, I've seen this film/anime, and it's been around for yonks. Why are they suddenly replaying it again? Seems really strange...I've never heard of a national/internation roll out of a film from 20 years ago...
